This is a fun and easy way to decorate a dessert, and you will WOW everyone into thinking it’s difficult! I tried this with rose, cabbage, hydrandia, and lemon leaves. The hydrandia, I felt, worked best because the veins were very pronounced.

Spray the leaves with a baking spray. Melt chocolate in a double boiler and with a brush coat well the entire back of the leaf. Let chocolate dry completely. (I placed it in the freezer for about 15 minutes). Finally peel the leaf away from the chocolate and you’re left with a chocolate leaf.

As fall has arrived, additions to salads are now about to change. Recently, while I was making a pretty simple dinner, I wanted to spice up my field greens a little. These pecans are pretty easy to make and can be accompanied by both gorgonzola cheese and dried cranberries.
1 Cup Coarsely Chopped Pecans
1 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
1/3 Cup Water
Pre Heat Oven to 300

In a sauce pan bring brown sugar and water to a boil and remove from heat and add pecans. On a baking sheet place a silplat and pour coated pecans over silplat and baking for 15 minutes remove and let cool completely. Now pecans are ready to add to salad!

So I love crusts. A lot of the time many desserts just need a good crust and you are good to go!

1 3/4 Cup Crushed Graham Cracker
3 Tablespoons Powered Sugar
1/3 Cup Melted Butter

Preheat Oven 350

Mix all ingredients together and place on the bottom of either a pie dish or spring form pan. Bake for 15 minutes.
Let cool before you had desired filling. This could be great just putting chocolate ice cream on top!

This is one of my favorite things to make since there are so many possibile uses from a sandwich, to a salad, to soups, and even pot pies – just to name a few.
5 Pound Chicken
1 Lemon or Orange
2 tablespoons of butter
Thyme
Salt and Pepper

Preheat oven at 450 degrees

To prepare chicken cut up lemon and place inside the chicken as well as a few sprigs of thyme. Basted the chicken with butter, some thyme and salt and pepper. Place chicken in oven for 30 minutes at 450 and then take out for 30 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 and bake for another 40 minutes.
Now ready to eat how every you desire.

Bread and Butter, a few do’s and dont’s:

  • Do take enough butter for your entire piece of bread .
  • Don’t keep taking more butter from the communal butter dish with each bite.
  • Don’t butter the entire piece of bread- just enough for your current bite.
  • Lastly, bread should be only be torn into three pieces.

Recently, I had fried pear wontons for dessert. I thought that since apple season is quickly approaching, I’d try it with apples instead. They were equally delicious!

1 Large apple peeled and diced
1/2 cup of raisins
1 tablespoons of Rum
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
1 1/2 teasppons of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/3 cup of sugar
1/4 cup chopped roasted pecains (optional)
20 Wonton Wrappers
(egg white for sealing wontons)

Mix all ingredients together except wrapper and bake for 15 minutes at 350. Put about a tablespoon of apple mixture onto each wonton wrapper and fold over sealing wonton together to egg white. ( this can be done by just brushing the ends of the wrapper) Once all have been prepared heat oil in frying pan and fry wontons until golden brown. Serve with either ice cream or whipped cream. If passing these whipped cream would be easier for dipping.

Simple Syrup is something that is every useful to know how to make. It is used in many different cocktails and cold beverages to make them sweet and smooth.

2 Parts Sugar
1 Part Water

Boiling sugar and water until sugar has dissolved and mixture has reduced by a third. Let cool completely and ready to add to any beverage.

Bruschetta is what made me start eating tomatoes. The best thing about making it, is that it gets better and better as it sits for a few days marinating in its own juices in the fridge. It’s great to add to anything from a sandwich to some scrambled eggs.

3 Cups diced, seeded ripe tomatoes
5 Tablespoons of chopped fresh Basil
1 Tablespoon of minced Garlic
1/2 Cup of olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredient in a bowl and let stand for 45 minutes at room temperature and ready to serve. If you are not going to serve it that day place in refrigerator covered.

About once a month, I attend a wine night with fr. We’ve tried everything from: white, red, sparkling, rose, regions, and last week- boxed! Now there are many different ways in which you could host a wine night. For now I will tell you how the one I attend is organized.

  • It is usally about 14-15 people with new people coming each time.
  • The hostess starts the evening by describing each of the wines that we will be trying. There are four wines wrapped up so we cannot see what we are tasting.
  • We each pick a number out of a hat so groups are organized randomly.
  • There is a sheet where we list things about each wine after we taste it from flavor to color.
  • Once we have completed the rounds, the hostess does a recap and askes questions about what we thought about the different wines as they are revealed. (The hostess has titled this night Wine Snobs in Training)
  • There is always scrumptious nibbles to be had!
  • Each attendee chips in $10 to help cover the costs.

Now this wine night requires a lot of work on behalf of the hostess. Another way it could be done is each person brings a Pinot Grigio from Italy (with a little research) and the hostess prepares some Italian sides to accompany.

It is a great way to get new and old people together !

Man’s best friends, dogs, are truly treated like little kings and queens these days. Growing up I don’t remember dogs having all the luxuries they have today, to name a few: doggy play groups, doggy taxi’s, teething toys, training mats, their own cars, and my favorite, doggy sun glasses.
Recently, I ran into a friend who had some dog treats and told me he could eat them. This made my wheels start turning- Dog Biscuits, why can’t I make them? This would be a perfect gift to give someone as either a thoughtful gesture, hostess gift instead of the proverbial bottle of wine, or a simple gift for a puppy. People LOVE their dogs.

3 Cups of Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 Cup Powdered Milk
3/4 Cup Beef Bouillon Broth
1/2 Cup Margarine
1 Egg
2 Teaspoons Bacon grease
2 Teaspoons of Sugar
2 Teaspoons of Salt
Pre-heat Oven 325 degrees

In a mixing bowl add margarine, powdered milk and hot beef both mixed together. Then mix in egg, bacon grease, sugar, and salt until well combines followed by adding flour 1/2 cup at a time. Knead the dough together for a few minutes and roll out dough to a 1/3 an inch thick and cut with desired cookie cutter. Biscuits can be placed very close to one another since they will not be rising. Bake for 50 minutes

Ready to serve to your little pooch!
